STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
The importance of the logo as part of your overall message is huge, it will or should appear everywhere, on business cards, a website, social media, signage, workwear and perhaps a fleet of transport. It can create a lasting impression and the design should not be taken lightly. It’s well proven that customers are far more likely to engage in or buy the products and services associated with a powerful, recognisable symbol.
The prime purpose and function is identification and it really matters. These marks are all around us, even as you’re reading this you’ll most probably be seeing numerous examples on the screen you’re using, it may just be the logo of the actual device you’re reading it on, we can think of one in particular. Their importance and how they can influence our decisions and behaviour should not be underestimated. The logo can symbolise an essence of the brand and can establish a string of positive emotions.
The design doesn’t have to be overly clever or elaborate, it doesn’t have to show stereotypical or cliché elements. You do need to stand-out against the competition and strive for the ‘unique’.
So many of these designs are imprinted in our culture and represent trust and values. They are instantly recognisable and live long in the memory. The design doesn’t have to be overly clever or elaborate, it also doesn’t have to show stereotypical or cliché elements. You do need to stand-out against the competition and strive for the ‘unique’.
If we think of the Apple logo, the company was already in its infancy and the name was in use. There are different theories about its derivation starting with the founders love of the fruit to where it appeared in the phone book listing (remember those?), however, despite its evolution over the years the logo itself is said to be the only design ever submitted, remains fundamentally the same to this day and does not lean towards obvious imagery.
Following trends can often be a mistake and only equates to blending-in, leading to being lost in the crowd. By all means research the latest fashion and then steer away from it or there’s a good chance your logo will rapidly look dated. There are a lot of online and free services to help design your logo and it’s a sure-fire way of ending up with a generic over used design that looks like a thousand others.
